Yoga Asana

To ‘Unite’ or ‘Yoke’ the finite self to the infinite self though physical, mental, and spiritual disciplines or practices.  Truths are found through various practices benefiting all areas of life.

All forms of yoga will enhance one’s quality of life.  The western trend of yoga fallows a more physical path to increase one’s health.  Most styles will focus on asanas.  These postures will help rid the body of toxins, poisons, and imbalance.  Mentally when the spine and vertebrae are aligned, the mind is free to concentrate and meditate without distraction, and the subtle energies of the body are awakened and accessed first through the spine then distributed through the nervous system and finally into and between the cells.  The purpose is not to have perfect posture, the focus in the practice of asana is to rid the body and mind of blockages to allow us to transcend the body’s limitations thus creating freedom to live a richer fuller life.

Top 5 Styles of Yoga (Western Schools)

Hot Yoga:

A form of Hatha Yoga that originated from Calcutta, India, whose linage of teacher could be traced back to Bikram Choundhury and Bishnu Gosh. It also integrates postures from other styles of Yoga to create variations and even greater range of motion. The class is practiced in a heated room to stretch and strengthen various areas of the body.

The Class:

Recommended for everyone from fist day beginners to advanced student. It is a series of 26 to 30 postures with two breathing exercises that takes an 1 – 1.5 hours in heated room. These postures will fallow a general sequence allowing for more benefit to take place and also the students to learn each posture more in depth. The first half of the class is standing, with more energizing and strength building postures. The second half of the class on the floor, with more relaxing and deeper postures. Each posture has different levels of ability so all can receive the same benefits.

The Heat:

By intentionally heating the room your muscles will by warm to prevent injuries and allow for a deeper release in your body. Sweating also help flush toxins and poisons from the body. The hotter the room the more vasodilated the body will be, increasing the flow of blood and oxygen throughout the body.
